SARAH HOLDER
CERAMICS
Originally trained in Textile Design at Plymouth University (Taunton campus) and after various jobs in theatre, admin, wig making and a pottery, Sarah majored in ceramics as part of a Fine Arts course in New Zealand. She then graduated in 2005 and returned to the UK in 2012. She started to make individual decorative and sculptural pieces inspired by the garden and the wider Mid Devon landscape where she lives. Each Piece is made intuitively and fairly quickly with slabs or coils. Sarah builds while the clay is still quite wet giving the pieces spontaneity and individual character. She embellishes the clay with plant material which she presses into the soft surface and is glazed to emphasize the textures. Sarah mainly sells at fairs with some online sales and through a few local stockists. |
