Hannah Wisdom creates textile art by sewing recycled fabrics onto old Admiralty sea charts to reference locality and heritage, culture and wildlife. The charts provide an immediate linkage to the environment of the subject, and she loves how their scars and blemishes add an extra layer of context and history to the work.
'Living in the South West, we are a region where the heritage of the sea permeates; this linkage of history and exploration with the more recent history experienced by the old charts I use and the permanence or persistence of the wildlife though it all fascinates me, and I love to weave those threads together’. Hannah sells her original works and signed limited edition giclee prints, together with a range of gift items printed with her designs including gorgeously soft faux suede cushions, tea towels, coasters, mirrors and cards. Hannah is a member of the Society for Embroidered Work. |
